The Best Smartphones For Online Gaming In 2023

If you’re a gamer, while you may have a console or a gaming PC, it’s also incredibly likely that you game on your smartphone too. These devices, which people use daily, are more geared up for gaming than ever before, and in 2023, there are some great options for those who want to play games online.

Asus ROG Phone 6D

There is only one place to start where smartphones that are best for online gaming are concerned, and that’s with the device that many describe as the ultimate gaming handset. Asus are experts in the field, and their series of ROG smartphones has always hit the high notes. The Asus ROG Phone 6D, which was released in September 2022, is their best so far, and it’s unrivalled as a smartphone when used for gaming.

The Asus ROG Phone 6D has everything you’d want as a gamer and more, such as a stunning HD OLED screen with a fantastic refresh rate, which means playing casino games like the latest online slots at any of the well known casino sites not only looks great but there is no lag or anything either. We also like that the ROG Phone 6 was special, but this new version brings superior cooling to the table, so overheating is a thing of the past.

Black Shark 5 Pro

For some gamers, especially mobile gamers, they want a smartphone that doesn’t just behave like a gaming device. They want the extra bits that make it feel like one too. In essence, moving away from the standard smartphone that can play games to a smartphone that is more akin to a handheld gaming device. And that Black Shark 5 Pro fits this billing perfectly.

What you initially get with the Black Shark 5 Pro is a smartphone that has a fast processor, plenty of RAM and a nice display, which makes it more than capable of handling all the latest top-end titles. And that’s more than perfect for some mobile gamers. However, there is a cool addition here which fits with what we said earlier, and that’s the inclusion of pop-up physical triggers. For us, they’re the difference between the Black Shark 5 Pro being a smartphone that can play games to a handheld gaming device of sorts.

Asus ROG Phone 5

Now, many people probably expected to see the Asus ROG Phone 6 appear on this list before the Asus ROG Phone 5, which is now a couple of editions out of date. But, we include it for a good reason and one that we’ll come onto shortly. However, before we do, it’s worth pointing out that even though this device has been around since 2021, it still more than holds its own as a gaming-ready smartphone today.

In short, owners of a ROG Phone 5 will get outstanding performance, an excellent battery life, and all the good stuff they expect on this front. However, what stands out for us about this device in particular, and why it gets a mention, is because while it is, in the eyes of many, a gaming phone, it also has enough appeal and enough going on for non-gamers to use it as a smartphone. This factor alone has been a key driver in the number of sales that have occurred since it was released.

Nubia Red Magic 7

We’re going to close this list off with the Nubia Red Magic 7. And, while it appears at the end, it doesn’t mean it’s a device that should be overlooked because it certainly most shouldn’t. When people think of gaming devices, such as PCs, they think of the high specs, the latest tech, and then the steep price. But the Nubia Red Magic 7 has all the good stuff but is affordable, which is a seriously attractive quality to have where today’s market is concerned.

You may think, wrongly, that there are compromises in quality made at points that allow the Nubia Red Magic 7 to fall into the affordable category that you could say it currently leads. But, if there are, they’re not noticeable. For example, the onboard processor means top-end games are easily handled, and it’s possible to have up to 16GB of RAM in play too. Who would have thought high-end could be affordable?
