The Strip
As you know, a visit to the Strip is something you must do when visiting Las Vegas. The nice thing about it is there are so many ways to save money that you can spend a little or a lot while visiting the city. Whether you want to take a ride on a gondola at the Venetian or catch a show at the Mirage, one thing is almost certain: there will be no lack of novelty and entertainment during your stay.
At night the Strip lights up with its famous neon signs, a sight you won’t want to miss during your visit. With so much to experience, it’s no surprise that visiting the Strip is on most people’s bucket lists. It has become the quintessential marker of Vegas’s glitz, glamour and love of show business, and boasts over 40 million visitors per year.
The Freemont Street Experience
With so much to see and do on the Strip, a lot of people miss out on the Freemont Street Experience in the heart of the city’s downtown. The street goes on for four miles and is home to some of Las Vegas’s most iconic casinos, including the Golden Nugget and Binion’s Gambling Hall.
However, casinos aren’t Freemont Street’s main draw. People come here to walk around the outdoor pedestrian mall. Spending time in an outdoor mall may not sound fun if you’re planning to visit this desert city in the summer but, don’t worry, a 1,500-foot-long canopy covers the shopping center.
If you stick around until the sun sets, you’ll be in for a treat. A light and sound show is projected onto the canopy each night. There are also street performers to keep you entertained, as well as vendors selling souvenirs for cheaper than you’ll find on the Strip.
The Neon Museum
Las Vegas is famous for its bright lights, and if you want to see how it all got started, consider spending an hour or two exploring the Neon Museum. Be sure to put on some comfy shoes before you set out on your journey and get ready to enjoy a fascinating part of the city’s history.
The museum is home to some of the most iconic neon signs to ever grace the city’s casinos. You’ve probably seen some of them in movies, and this outdoor exhibition space gives you the opportunity to travel back in time as you explore them.
This area is known as the Neon Boneyard and has over 200 vintage signs on display, including those from famous casinos like the Moulin Rouge and the Stardust.
Hoover Dam
After visiting some of the world’s best casinos, you may be ready for a break from the big city. Several day trips are only a short car drive away from the Strip and worth the journey if you have extra time.
A visit to the Hoover Dam is a must if you can fit it into your schedule. It’s located about 30 miles outside the city and sits on the border of Arizona and Nevada, spanning the Colorado River. The dam provides hydroelectric power to both states and to California, and you can take a guided tour of it to learn how this marvel of modern engineering was built.
If you don’t want to go on the tour, you can simply walk across the top of the dam and take in its spectacular views. If that’s not enough, you can visit Lake Mead or go white-water rafting down the Colorado River.
